WHY CST PROCTORS ARE SO IMPORTANT

PROCTORS ARE CRITICAL TO THE SUCCESS AND CREDIBILITY OF THE PROGRAM

If you are reading this, it is hopefully because you are considering becoming a proctor for either the on-line or the paper examinations for the National Society of Professional Surveyors’ Certified Survey Technician (CST) program.

The CST Program is a nationally recognized certification for survey technicians, employs a testing format that is geared to minimize the costs for the applicants and thus relies primarily on the volunteering of others to set up a site for the examination and to proctor the applicants as they take the examination.

Many who volunteer throughout the country are licensed surveyors, engineers, educators, and other experienced exam proctors. The key to becoming a proctor, as you will see in the “Proctor Packet” and “Proctor Approval form” is that you are a truly “disinterested third party” with no direct personal benefit in the success of the examinee. Obviously, this is to protect the integrity of the certification process and to “protect all parties concerned against any insinuation that the examinees received special advantage”.

Getting approval to be a proctor and setting up a testing site is a straightforward process.  Many individuals are currently serving as approved proctors and the NSPS office stands ready to assist you as you move to provide this most critical service to the surveying and mapping profession.
